The Opportunity
Regulatory Affairs and Stewardship Division – Stewardship
The GIS Support Specialist is responsible for the digitizing and inputting of spatial data related to oil and gas development (surface and subsurface). This position effectively integrates and analyzes resource/environmental information from a wide variety of sources to provide staff with the information needed for their decision-making processes. Work within the Planning and Analysis team, this position provides support to GIS Analysts and other Commission staff by providing GIS expertise and producing maps.
Job Qualifications
Qualifications
Consideration will be given to those with:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related natural resource management field and 2 years of related experience or Technical school diploma in GIS or natural resource management and four years of related experience. This position specifically requires at least one year of current experience (gained within the last three years) in GIS software specifically Arc Info and ArcMap. There may be different combinations of education and experience that would meet this requirement.
• Demonstrated experience creating a variety of digital, graphical and descriptive products including colour thematic maps and associated descriptive statistics.
Preference will be given to qualified applicants who demonstrate experience:
• Working in a resource management related field in a capacity where the applicant is exposed to a wide variety of land and environmental data and information
• Experience producing cartographic quality maps
• Knowledge of spatial conversion, analysis and cartographic composition procedures and spatial data management techniques
• Knowledge of provincial government data applications, such as the Land and Resource Data Warehouse (LRDW), the Integrated Land and Resource Registry (ILRR) and iMapBC
