Reporting to the Manager, NWT Geomatics, the Enterprise Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Administrator manages the GNWT Enterprise GIS architecture and central data repository, which facilitates the discovery, exchange and access to geomatics data and information throughout the GNWT as well as to partner organizations and the public. The Administrator identifies, implements, and maintains spatial databases as well as develops procedures and standards that enable spatial data to be stored and updated efficiently. The incumbent provides advice and recommendations on online GIS, websites, portals and geo-databases within the NWT Centre for Geomatics and Government of the Northwest Territories to meet current and constantly evolving business requirements.

Applicants should have knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) software, spatial data, metadata, data modeling techniques and the associated procedures and standards required to effectively administer government-wide spatial data. Knowledge of database concepts as they relate to spatial database design and knowledge of spatial data delivery methods is required. Strong communication, both written and oral is required as well as strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Job Qualifications

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by a University degree in Computer Science, Remote Sensing, or Geographic Information Systems with an emphasis on GIS and web based development and operating and administrating online geospatial portals and two (2) years of directly related experience. Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience will be considered.

Other Information

The salary starts at $43.94 per hour (approximately $85,683 per annum), plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
