Job Description

The GIS Analyst is responsible to the Geomatics Coordinator for fulfilling a range of operational responsibilities that support the development and maintenance of geospatial data, tabular data and associated information products and applications. The duties will mainly focus on supporting the information management requirements of the Drinking Water Source Protection project, however, requirements may vary over the duration of the work term. Specific Accountabilities 1) Data development and maintenance: a) Applying the information management principles of the GRCA, following existing database standards and working in collaboration with technical leads and data custodians, the GIS Analyst will perform a range of tasks including ETL tasks on external data sources, data development and maintenance of the corporate database for geospatial and non-spatial data entities. b) Maintain metadata content for data entities related to maintenance responsibilities. c) Continuously maintain clean and efficient data organization and documentation. 2) Map production: a) Produce standard cartographic products as directed to support business requirements b) Update existing cartographic products as needed. 3) Liaison with project stakeholders: a) Work on the acquisition, organization, documentation, quality assurance, metadata and loading of third-party data into the GRCA spatial data warehouse. b) Work with project leads, technical leads, and provincial representatives to ensure that data content, structure and quality meet minimum data standards. c) Liaison and participate in internal and external stakeholder communications. 4) Other Duties: Other responsibilities are primarily for the purpose of cross training and backup coverage within the Geomatics department. These may include support for end-user applications and maintaining a supporting role in networking among staff, agencies and organizations with respect to data collection, data sharing, data maintenance and cooperative projects.

Job Qualifications

EDUCATION: Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with training in GIS/Geomatics, Resource management, Geography or a related discipline. SKILLS: Thorough understanding of geospatial and relational database concepts. Strong analytical, problem solving, documentation, project management, interpersonal and communication skills. Initiative and the ability to achieve results while working independently with minimal supervision. Adaptable to change with ability to contribute to a team environment. Ability to understand user requirements and achieve results. Ability to extract and convey knowledge from and to others. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years of working experience, including Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) product suite of ArcGIS, Arc/Info and ArcIMS. Experience with MS Access and SQL Server. Experience with one or more of Python, ArcObjects, VB.NET and ArcGIS Server is desirable.
