GeoDigital continues to grow and is looking to complement our team with a hands-on Senior Systems Engineer to be based at our headquarters in Hamilton, Ontario and reporting to our Vice President of Technical Operations. This is an all-encompassing role that requires an individual with strong business skills who can champion the building of a vision and long term hardware roadmap for the company, while delivering customer value through collaboration with key business groups.
The successful incumbent will apply their systems engineering knowledge and experience to provide hands-on multi-disciplinary support to GeoDigital’s research & development, field, commercial operations and sales & marketing teams. The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for hardware development and integration, life cycle management and product refinement, through operational fielding using best practices.
Responsibilities include the application of established standards to support the development of engineering and concept descriptions with stakeholders and users, and the development of associated processes, policies and deriving systems requirements and configuration. This role conducts and participates in the research, design, development, testing and analysis of custom computing hardware, electrical and mechanical components. You will plan, direct, review and coordinate the preparation of project documentation to ensure company requirements are met. Additional responsibilities include the preparation of specifications, vendor evaluations and submissions, and analyzing test reports.
You will be responsible for defining objectives, recruiting, coordinating cross-organizational deliverables, and communicating progress to senior management. You will work with software developers, engineers, electronic technologists, field operations staff, product managers, and members of the sales & marketing team to align objectives that deliver compliant, high-quality products for production use. This role will require approximately 20% travel to support customers and our field operations teams.
Job Qualifications
• Master of Science or Engineering Degree preferred; Systems, Electrical and/or Electro-Mechanical
• 5 - 10 years experience in a Systems Engineer capacity
• Aerospace, robotics or geomatics industry related experience preferred
• Demonstrated leadership skills in working through complex systems problems and defining requirements, successfully transitioning one or more engineering products into commercial and industrial use
• Familiarity with data acquisition methods and techniques
• Keen mechanical, analytical, and configuration management skills; ability to work independently within budgets and schedules, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Effective written and oral communication and coordination skills. Ability to take the initiative to recognize and understand issues and design solutions with minimal outside direction
• Excellent team building, cross-organizational and project management skills
• Has a track record of working effectively in a team environment that incorporates engineering, sales, and management
• Proven success presenting ideas to vendors, associates, and customers
• Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Project)
• CAD experience is desirable
• PMP designation would be an asset
• Understanding of government regulatory approval processes required
• Ability to travel internationally 20% of their time to support customers and our field operations teams
