The data manager will work under the supervision of the Executive Director of the AC CDC in Sackville and the Senior Wildlife Biologist (Biodiversity) with the Wildlife Division. He/she will be responsible for managing Newfoundland and Labrador species at risk and biodiversity databases for both the AC CDC and the Wildlife Division. The data manager will on a regular basis be required to fill data requests, develop databases, coordinate data mining exercises, funding proposal writing, report writing and manage AC CDC staff in the Corner Brook office. The Data manager will also occasionally identify and contribute to the AC CDC revenue generating exercises.
The incumbent will also from time to time be given the opportunity to assist the Wildlife Division’s biologists with the development of field projects associated with species at risk or biodiversity inventories, this may include participating in the field work, surveys and other activities as needed and as they relate to the AC CDC and data management requirements.
Job Qualifications
This position requires experience with collecting, compiling, managing and interpreting biodiversity and species at risk data. Well developed analytical, communication and organizational skills are important. Data management and GIS skills are essential. Experience in interpreting occurrence information and biological data as well as an understanding of Nature Serve methods and NatureServes’s Biotics conservation science software would be advantageous. Should be able to work independently and in a team.
These qualifications would normally be acquired through a Bachelors Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences or related field and additional training with respect to data management and Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS)

Knowledge and interest in flora and fauna of Newfoundland and Labrador
Plant and/or animal identification skills
Visual Basic for applications (Access, Excel, Word)
Visual Basic for ArcObjects
Avenue programming in ArcView
Oracle
