Job Description
AMEC’s Earth & Environmental division is recruiting a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist/Database Manager to join our team in Fredericton, NB.
Summary:
• Reporting to the GIS/CAD department, you will support AMEC’s Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) remediation operations. Working closely with the geophysical and GPS data collection teams, you will populate and maintain the UXO GIS database, perform data analysis and produce related end products for reporting purposes.
• This position will require travel within and occasionally outside of New Brunswick. Work will be conducted at site-specific field offices during the field season (accommodation provided).

Responsibilities:

Primary Duties:
• Create and maintain AMEC UXO geodatabase
• Develop spatial data workflow
• Incorporate geophysical/ GPS field data
• Produce and maintain high-quality metadata
• Ensure client data standards are met
• Manage and perform high level of QA/ QC
• Download and process GPS camera data on a daily basis
• Produce reporting products on a daily, weekly and ongoing basis, e.g. maps, data analysis & summaries, etc.
• Make daily and weekly data reports available to client
• Ensure data backups are performed regularly
• Support the UXO team’s on-site field efforts through production of site-specific maps and related information as needed
• Ongoing development and implementation of best practice, standards and standard operating procedures for UXO GIS
Other Duties:
• Outside of the field season, you will be supporting the production of UXO reports for the previous field season through data analysis and mapping, and participating in planning the forthcoming field season.
• Provide GIS support to other AMEC Fredericton business units as needed (Environmental, Engineering, Mining).
• Field-work support and other duties as required.
Job Qualifications
Qualifications:
• Degree/ Diploma in GIS and/ or Computer Sciences
• 3 - 5 years of direct and applicable work experience in the GIS field
• Highly proficient in use of ArcMap 9.3 software
• Highly proficient in creation and maintenance of ArcGIS 9.3 geodatabases and MS Access
• Knowledge of database management/ design concepts
• Familiarity with FGDC metadata standards, strong metadata skills
• Excellent understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and datums
• Familiarity with GPS technology and field data collection techniques
• Valid drivers license
• Valid passport
