Job Description
Under the supervision of the Planning and Researching Officer, the GIS Administrator ensures the effective maintenance and operation of the computerized Planning and Transportation GIS software applications (i.e. Trapeze/Mapnet and Baragar Demographics) to support the activities of the Planning and Transportation Department. This position provides technical and operational support to Planning and Transportation department staff and ensures that the digitized map and student data required for its applications is current, accurate and of high quality. The GIS Administrator acts as the primary contact with relevant software vendors and the Information Technology Department with respect to the daily operation of GIS applications. The GIS Administrator also provides technical support to departmental users of the GIS system and coordinates departmental training. In conjunction with Information Technology, the GIS Administrator also coordinates any testing and installation of new GIS software releases and requests for application enhancements.
Job Qualifications
Completion of a three year community college diploma in geographic information systems (GIS), computer science/information technology, planning, transportation or a business related discipline is required. Minimum of three years experience, preferably with computerized transportation route planning/optimization and/or attendance boundary management systems in a transportation or education environment is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Other Information
Current working knowledge of computerized transportation routing/scheduling/optimization and attendance boundary management systems i.e. Trapeze/MapNet and Baragar
Demonstrated understanding of student transportation and educational planning technical requirements and knowledge of Student Information System (SIS), demographic and transportation data sources
Familiarity with various computer applications and languages such as SQL and Oracle is required
Ability to assess and evaluate user operational and training requirements
Demonstrated analytical, evaluative, time management, organizational and problem solving skills
Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a strong client and quality service orientation and highly effective verbal and written communication abilities
Demonstrated computer skills in key applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, e-mail and the Internet software and SIS database
Strong presentation skills to deliver training sessions and workshops for departmental staff and other users
Demonstrated aptitude to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize appropriately
Demonstrated diplomacy, tact, and discretion is essential
Demonstrated comfort with ambiguity and openness to change in a complex and high volume and stressful environment
Ability to function with a minimal of supervision and lead and participate in a collaborative team environment.
