Golder Associates is seeking a CAD Group Leader ” to provide leadership, vision and strategic planning for the CAD Group of the Information Management Division.


The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of CAD technicians and designers.
  • Manage daily operations of work distribution, client requirements and project deadlines.
  • Interact with other Groups in the Division: Geographic Information Systems and Information Management.
  • Participate in recruitment, interviewing and hiring of CAD personnel.
  • Be responsible for the promotion of CAD software and capabilities and provide input to business development.
  • Assist and support the various engineering consultant disciplines in providing CAD services.
  • Organize, maintain and support the CAD environment, assist with maintenance and configuration of CAD workstations and CAD software license server.
  • Be responsible for product quality assurance and control.
  • Assist in development, implementation and enforcement of company CAD standards.
  • Provide support for project standards and coordinate with clients.
  • Be responsible for the evaluation and implementation of future CAD hardware and software.
  • Be responsible for annual budgets for staff, training, hardware and software.
  • Be responsible for maintenance of the CAD document archive and retrieval system.
  • Assist in the preparation of 2D and 3D design drawings, tender drawings, construction drawings, and as-built drawings to be issued for proposal, design and construction documents.
  • Assist in the design of graded terrain, tailings depositions, mining structures, waste management facilities, haul roads, dams, berms, open pits, waste dumps, ditches, channels, and ponds.
  • Assist in engineering design and calculations, such as material quantity take-off volumes and facility struck level capacity volumes.

Job Qualifications

Job Requirements

The preferred candidate will possess the following:

  • A related engineering degree, with minimum 5 years experience, preferably in the fields of ground engineering such as civil, geotechnical, mining, mine waste, waste management or land development, with extensive related work and management experience.
  • Previous supervisory/management experience;
  • Experience with the following software is essential: AutoCAD Land Development, AutoCAD Civil Design, Auto Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Word and MS PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work in a productive environment with the following software would be considered an asset: AutoCAD MAP, AutoCAD Raster Design, AutoLisp and AutoCAD Visual Basic for Applications, MicroStation, FME (Feature Manipulation Engine), Corel Draw, Corel PhotoPaint, gINT, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills;
  • Proven oral and written communication skills;
  • Organized and detail-oriented;
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure; and,
  • Able to prioritize and respond to the needs of several engineering disciplines.
