Job Description
The Environmental Sciences Group (ESG) specializes in carrying out environmental site investigations and remediation at remote locations as well as in applied environmental research. ESG's clients are government agencies, mainly various departments within the Department of National Defence.
ESG consists of a multidisciplinary team of biologists, chemists, geologists, geographers and engineers. Many have BSc degrees, some have Masters degrees and a few have PhDs.
Job Description:
Reporting to the GIS Supervisor, the position provides GIS and report mapping support for a variety of projects within ESG both in the office and in the field. Field work could be anywhere in Canada, including the Arctic region.
During the field season (June – September) tasks include:
• Conducting field mapping of facilities and sample locations using differential mapping grade GPS equipment.
• Providing mapping product in the field to support environmental remediation initiatives.
• Database creation and management.
• Use of GIS techniques and spatial analysis to support decision-making process
For the remainder of the year (October – May) tasks include:
• Processing of field data to create facility or sample maps.
• Integrating a variety of map sources to create complete maps of the sites.
• Provide GPS and AutoCAD training to other staff members.
• Prepare electronic maps for use in the field season.
• Participate in remediation initiative planning.
• Participate in the research and development of GIS services.
• Support ESG initiatives through software automation and software development
Job Qualifications
Mandatory Qualifications:
• Candidates should have a minimum of 2-5 years experience in the GIS field.
• Enthusiasm and a team-player attitude
• Excellent written & oral communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and decision-making ability
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and database software.
• Problem solving and communication skills
Education Requirements:
Candidates should have a minimum of a diploma or degree in GIS (concentration in remote sensing) or computer science.

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience working in remote locations and using GPS equipment would be an asset.
Special Conditions:
Ability to spend between 2 to 6 weeks at remote locations across Canada. This may include some overtime hours varying scheduling.
