Job Description

About Telvent:

Telvent, the Global RealTime IT Company, specializes in solutions with high added value in four specific industry sectors (i.e., Energy, Traffic, Transport and Environment) in Europe, North America, Latin America, the Asia-Pacific region, and the Middle East and Africa.

The Telvent Petroleum GIS (TPG) Competency Center is a newly formed group within Telvent Canada Ltd., consisting of seasoned GIS and Information Management (IM) professionals. The team focuses on providing value-dense GIS and integrated IM services to energy customers – primarily upstream and midstream oil and gas. Additionally, TPG assists in contributing solutions to Telvent’s Enterprise GIS Product Center (i.e., Telvent Miner & Miner). TPG’s strengths lie in its people, whose innovation help to create solutions for clients that are rich in value and are sustainable. TPG is growing quickly…come join our team and experience the excitement!

Position Summary & Major Responsibilities:

Why do it manually when you can automate it? Telvent Canada Ltd has a career opportunity in Calgary, Alberta office for a motivated individual to join our team to help provide GIS application solutions to our clients. You will report directly to the GIS Practice Lead and will be responsible for providing architectural and programming services to clients and internally to Telvent. You are familiar with oil and gas applications and client requirements and have a solid feel for the industry.

You will work with Telvent’s Calgary office to help sculpt application solutions. One of your greatest strengths is your ability to see opportunities for clients to improve processes and automate workflow. You love to program; in fact, when you sleep, you dream in ArcObjects. You are beyond writing code simply to ‘make it work’; indeed, you understand the importance of writing elegant components that are efficient, reusable, and scalable. You enjoy collaborating and ‘banging around’ design ideas. You are not an introvert and enjoy interacting with clients and team members. Additionally, there likely will be opportunities to collaborate with our Telvent Miner & Miner (think ArcFM) development team.

You understand the principles and practices of Project Management. You may not be a PMP, but you do not believe in ad-hoc Project Management for programming. You are committed to a blended agile methodology to successfully complete your projects.

Education & Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or technical diploma in GIS, Geography, Geomatics Engineering, or Computer Science. Relevant job experience will also be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 3(int)-7(snr) years direct GIS application development experience in last 4(int)-8(snr) years.
  • Exceptional ArcObjects programming skills and knowledge.
  • Strong .NET capabilities, SQL Server/Oracle experience, and Internet programming.
  • Strong scripting capabilities in ESRI-supported languages.
  • Strong problem solving skills and solutions vision.
  • Experience working with the energy industry (viz., oil and gas) and understanding of upstream/midstream workflow.
  • Significant experience with ESRI 9.x product suite (ArcGIS Desktop, Server, and Mobile).
  • Functional understanding of petroleum data models (e.g., PPDM, PODS, ESRI, etc.).
  • Ability to work in a highly dynamic consulting environment with minimal direct supervision.
  • Some Project Management experience (snr)

Some travel will be required. Start date is targeted for January 9, 2007.

Remuneration:

Remuneration is commensurate with experience and capability. Telvent is an equal opportunity employer that offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a challenging work environment. Telvent is committed to a work-life balance and career development as integral components of its business philosophy. Some of the greatest rewards of working with the TPG team stem from the excitement, vision, and innovation within.
