Position
Summary & Major Responsibilities:
Telvent
Canada Ltd has a career opportunity in Calgary, Alberta office for a
motivated individual to join our team to help provide consulting and
analytical GIS services. You will report to the GIS Practice Lead
within the Telvent Petroleum GIS Competency Center and will be
responsible for providing senior analytical services to energy clients.
Specifically, you will be required to help architect data and GIS
solutions, acquire and manage information, analyze and visualize
information, mentor junior staff, and communicate value to clients.
You
can script and program like a guru, but you choose to use programming
to aid with your analysis, not to create applications or product. You
understand ESRI technology very well and know how to apply it to create
value for clients. Telvent works in a team environment, whether it is
internal on projects or onsite with a client. This is great news for
you, as you have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working directly
with clients.
You
have been around long enough to remember all the work-arounds in
ArcView 3.2. Your oil and gas experience shows, as you not only
understand the business, but also you have built strong relationships
with clients. You are a familiar face in the Geomatics community and
have a passion for geospatial information management. You are personal
and enjoy mentoring the ‘up comers’.
You
can firefight with the best of them, but you prefer to have a solid
plan. In fact, you may have taken the odd Project Management course to
help improve your likelihood of success on projects.
Education
& Experience Preferred:
- Bachelor
of Science degree or technical diploma in GIS, Geography, or Geomatics
Engineering. Relevant job experience will also be considered in lieu of
a degree.
- Minimum
5 years direct GIS experience in last 6 years.
- Significant
experience with ESRI 9.x product suite including ArcGIS Desktop and
ArcSDE.
- Working
knowledge of ArcObjects and/or scripting.
- Working
knowledge of supported ESRI scripting languages.
- Strong
analytical and problem solving skills.
- Functional
experience in data models, data manipulation, spreadsheet, and database
applications.
- Experience
working with the energy industry (viz., oil and gas) and understanding
of upstream/midstream workflow.
- Ability
to work in a highly dynamic consulting environment with minimal direct
supervision.
- GISP
or willingness to obtain.
Some
travel will be required. Start date is targeted for January 9, 2007.
