Job Description
The Geospatial Research Facility for Terrestrial Ecosystems is accepting applications for a dynamic, enterprising professional to join its research team. This is an exciting opportunity to participate in all facets of innovative geospatial solutions development, using emerging data management and computing technologies, to support terrestrial ecosystem science and resource management.
DUTIES: As a team leader in a dynamic research and production environment, the Visual Modeling Specialist will provide scientific and technical direction to all aspects of computer-based visual modeling applied research activities and projects. The incumbent will interact with team leaders in spatial data management, ecological modeling and geophysical mapping to plan and develop innovative visual modeling solutions aimed at enhancing terrestrial ecosystem science and resource management. In particular, the incumbent will explore the application of advanced modeling technologies and strategies to strengthen resource analyses and planning, visual impact analyses and visual-based educational product development. Other responsibilities will include fostering growth of the visual modeling group through the creation of new applied research proposals and building collaborative relations with relevant external stakeholders in the broader modeling community. Other duties will include active participation in knowledge transfer activities.
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a research-driven individual with experience using computer-based visual modeling tools and techniques to simulate natural environments using spatial data. A working knowledge of ESRI-based GIS products and visual modeling tools sets and strategies is required. Knowledge of either of the following fields is desired: geometric modeling, Open systems technology development, or scientific visualization. Sound project management, proposal writing, and problem-solving experience combined with strong oral communication and creative presentation skills are required. These qualifications would normally be gained through a minimum of three years of progressive experience supplemented by a university degree in computer or natural sciences or engineering, graduate degree preferred. Other acceptable combinations of education, training and\or experience may be considered. Experience in terrestrial ecosystem related disciplines would be an asset.
