Job Description



As a team member of Land Information Toronto section of the City of Toronto, you are responsible for the design, development, implementation, maintenance and documentation of leading edge geospatial information technology solutions for Canada¡¦s largest city.

Job Qualifications



The Senior GIS Analyst/Developer: „« Participates in design and evaluation sessions of spatial data structures and spatially enabled applications with objectives to promote integration with existing geo-spatial information assets and tools and to ensure adherence to standards. „« Provides ongoing support and review of existing applications. „« Assists business units in selecting and implementing appropriate geo-spatial technology and procedures to best serve their needs by researching and recommending viable options. „« Reviews current applications and ¡§off-the-shelf¡¨ applications and makes recommendations for upgrades and/or adoptions. „« Conducts quality reviews. „« Demonstrates highly developed analytical skills to research problems and deal with highly complex issues. „« Uses superior communication skills to transfer geo-spatial technology knowledge to groups well versed in the field and to groups new to the field. „« Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of both the current and planned GIS platforms and the current and potential professional areas to be served.

Key Qualifications: 1. Computer science education or equivalent experience. 2. Considerable experience in the design, development, implementation and support of leading edge, successful, geo-spatial technologies from ESRI and Oracle. 3. A minimum of 3 years development experience with two or more of the following GIS technologies used to manage municipal geo-spatial information: ArcGIS, ArcObjects, ArcIMS, Oracle Spatial, ArcSDE/SDE. Experience with any of the following is considered an asset: Workstation ArcINFO, MapObjects, Geomedia, Microstation, MapInfo, AutoCAD. 4. A minimum of 3 years development and management experience with large Oracle warehouses. The following experience is considered an asset: Oracle DBA in a Unix environment, ESRI Geodatabase, data modelling with UML. 5. A minimum of 3 years development experience with two or more of the following languages/tools: Oracle PL/SQL, SQL, VB, Java. Experience with any of the following is considered an asset: Python, C, Java API for ArcSDE, C API for ArcSDE, Unix script. 6. Considerable experience with multi-tiered architectures and particularly, Web-based, spatially enabled applications based on ArcIMS which involve JSP, EJB, XML, HTML, AXL and Java applets/servlets. The following experience is considered an asset: WebServices, Websphere, J2EE, WSAD. 7. Demonstrated software development discipline using source code control and software development life cycle methodologies. 8. Well developed analytical skills and attention to detail, standards and documentation demonstrated through development of enterprise applications. 9. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 10. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and to effectively maintain co-operative working relationships.
