This position supports GIS work within the Chinook business area (Powell River, Chilliwack, Squamish, Daajing Giids) and can be based in any of the following BC Timber Sales offices: Burns Lake, Campbell River, Chilliwack, Dawson Creek, Fort St James, Fort St John, Hazelton, Kamloops, Mackenzie, Nelson, Port McNeill, Powell River, Prince George, Quesnel, Squamish, Terrace, Vanderhoof, Vernon, Victoria, or Williams Lake. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home subject to an approved telework agreement.

The GIS Analyst conducts advanced spatial data analysis to support program and management decision-making on resource planning, land management or other program issues. This position contributes to building the capabilities of ministry staff to maximize the potential of GIS and related geospatial and information technologies through the development, implementation, evaluation and dissemination of standards, procedures and methods for collection, integration, maintenance, analysis, storage and distribution of digital corporate data. Outputs from this position are used for developing science-based policy, standards and guidelines for natural resource management and informed strategic planning and decision-making regarding forest management activities. Job Qualifications
Qualifications for this role include:
- Diploma or degree in geographic information systems, or in a related field, such as natural resources, geography or data science and three (3) years of related experience.
OR
- Equivalent combination of training and five (5) years related experience.
- Experience designing and developing customized spatial/database tools.
- Experience delivering complex spatial/tabular analysis projects in support of client’s business needs.
