Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to three (3) days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
Geomatics and Data Science Specialist

The Ministry of Land, Water and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated water, land and natural resource management and cross-sector legislation, policy, and objective setting for land and marine environments. Building on integrated land and resource management efforts in the past, the Ministry will seek to build a new vision in collaboration with natural resource ministries and First Nations that will embrace shared decision making on the land base.
The Geomatics and Data Science Specialist performs advanced spatial and statistical analysis using data from a variety of sources to provide decision support for program, management, strategic or legislative decision makers to maximize the potential of GIS and related geospatial and information technologies to support the business objectives of the program and its clients.
Qualifications for this role include:
- Bachelor’s Degree in geomatics, natural resource management, environmental science, geography or computer science or related area, or equivalent PLUS three (3) years of related experience*; OR
- Master’s Degree in related field plus one (1) year of related experience*; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Related Experience may include a combination of the following:
- Experience developing and managing large spatial and attribute data sets and experience with database management tools and applications.
- Experience within the last three years using GIS Software (e.g. ESRI or QGIS) managing and analyzing raster and vector data.
- Experience within the last 3 years conducting data analysis with multiple datasets using a modern programming language.
- Experience within the last three years in data visualization.
