JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Duties:

 

* Facilitates the ongoing analysis of the Photogrammetric Engineering Section by planning photo control and writing photography specifications for new projects, designing flight plans for aerial photography acquisition, organizing and undertaking photo preparation and point transferring for aerial triangulation, providing mathematical adjustment of aerial triangulated photo control blocks including creating and editing computer files of survey and aerial triangulation, executing mathematical adjustment programs on computer facilities and analyzing computer outputs and storing and documenting final computed data.

* Maintains liaison with and provides services to a variety of internal and external clients by providing photo interpretation and terrain analysis expertise, providing technical expertise in the use and interpretation of Interactive Digital Photography data and promoting applications of digital photography and photo interpretation within BC Hydro.

* Provides technical advice to S&D departmental staff on photogrammetric techniques and equipment.

* Maintains communication with various contractors and government agencies to research information and/or monitor contract performance.

* Modifies and compiles basic computer programs.

* May be required to perform all the duties of the Photogrammetrist 1 job.

* Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.

 

Qualifications:

 

* Completion of a National Diploma in Surveying (Photogrammetry Option) from an institute of technology and additional courses such as Descartes, Microstation, Adobe PhotoShop, FME, Siteworks, Phocus and Maps 3D with up to 8 years experience applying analytical photogrammetry, digital map compilation and aerial triangulation

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

This position is affiliated with the Movement of United Professionals union (MoveUP/COPE).

* This position will be part of the Geomatics Services team which includes Photogrammetry and GIS.

* The Photogrammetry team utilizes and supports the BC Hydro Enterprise GIS. The Photogrammetry team also provides technical assistance, procurement and quality assurance for various forms of spatial data including LiDAR data, Satellite imagery, and Aerial Photography.

* Our variety of services includes undertaking digital photogrammetric engineering and environmental studies, compiling digital terrain models, compiling data to facilitate route location studies, undertaking photogrammetric vegetation analysis, providing photo interpretation expertise, compiling pertinent topographic data for engineering and environmental studies, preparing electronic drawings and general mapping and drafting duties.

Please note that while the above Qualifications are preferred, we will possibly consider candidates with the following:

* Diploma from an accredited institution in a relevant branch of Geomatics (e.g. Photogrammetry, Geomatics, Survey)

Or

* Technical diploma from an accredited institution plus three (3) years of Geomatics experience within a utilities and/or natural resource environment.

* Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

 

Desired Technical Skills & Experience:

* Solid background in Geomatics including the principles and practices of photogrammetry, remote sensing, GIS, LIDAR, and conventional surveying.

* Strong Photogrammetric, GIS and CAD software experience including Microstation, TerraSolid, ESRI, Global Mapper and Smallworld.

* Advanced working knowledge of data transformation software (i.e. FME).

* Knowledge and experience with stereo vision and data collection.

* A comprehensive technical understanding of LiDAR technology, data quality, classification, analysis and relevant industry standards.

* Knowledge of programming/scripting languages.

* Working knowledge of 3D surface modeling and 3D visualization concepts.

* Experience with PLS-CADD modelling software.

* Experience with using and optimizing the latest drone technology for LiDAR & imaging.

* Ability to create, use and maintain geodatabases and data management systems.

* Good Mathematical skills.

* Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

* Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and prioritize multiple tasks and projects to complete job functions in an orderly and efficient manner.

* Ability to compile, review, and reconcile data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

* This is a FTT position for approximately 12 months.

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

 

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home

Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.

Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
