Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment is currently seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Geomatics Inventory Management Coordinator (Tech Staff II) to support both the Geomatics Engineering Technology Diploma and Bachelor of Science Degree programs. The Geomatics Inventory Management Coordinator will assist instructors and students by issuing and receiving field equipment, training materials and tools, and will be responsible for guiding students in the proper care and use of equipment. The Geomatics Inventory Management Coordinator will be expected to check for damages and loss, make minor repairs, and determine when equipment repairs and/or calibrations are needed. Other duties include monitoring and maintaining equipment inventories and preparing purchase requisitions. The role will require ongoing organization of equipment storage and keeping the areas clean and uncluttered.
The Geomatics program at BCIT offers a full-time diploma, a Bachelor of Science degree and an active schedule of continuing education courses, delivered through part-time studies.
The two-year diploma is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the theory and practical application of surveying and mapping. The degree requires an additional two years of study and builds on this foundation for students wishing to further their careers as land surveyors or Geomatics professionals.
Graduates of both the diploma and degree find employment in a wide range of fields such as construction, natural resources, legal and engineering surveying in both the public and private sectors. Faculty are key to the success of the program through excellence in instruction, close ties with industry and by mentoring and motivating students to succeed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain Field Equipment Store:
- Issue, record and check-in of field equipment.
- Monitor damage or loss of field equipment, and report to the department.
- Oversee maintenance schedule for field equipment.
- Prepare paperwork for major equipment repairs.
- Keep field equipment and storage areas clean, and ensure tools are kept in good working condition.
- Ensure BCIT’s sanitization requirements are met.
Maintain Inventories:
- Record field equipment inventory.
- Monitor field supplies and consumables, and inform faculty when purchase orders are needed.
- Source components for repairing equipment, as required.
- Receive parts and supplies; checks for correctness and place items received into inventory
- Notify the Program Head of any loss, damages or discrepancies.
- Ensure paperwork and electronic documents are filed according to departmental and institution standards.
- Expedite backorders and source alternative suppliers as required.
Other duties and responsibilities:
- Assisting and advising students and staff on current safety issues.
- Issuing field equipment to students and instructors and documenting returns, and helping students identify and choose the correct equipment for a specific task.
- Establishing a good working relationship with all departments, suppliers and outside agencies.
- Ensuring proper recycling of waste and unused materials.
- Answering the telephone in the equipment store, responding to queries, and relaying messages in a professional manner.
- Participating in ongoing training and remaining current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures.
- Undertaking related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Completion of Grade 12, and
- Completion of inventory management / operations.
License(s)/Certifications:
- A valid BC Class 5 driver’s license is desired.
- First Aid and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training an asset.
Experience:
- Two years general, plus at least one year related experience.
Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise:
- Solid background using MS Office, email, web based software, internet search engines and
- keyboarding.
- Experience with use of hand held devices such as GPS and tablets.
- Prior use of asset management software and hardware systems desirable.
Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
- Must have excellent communications skills, both written and oral.
- Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively and professionally with students and instructors.
Administrative Skills:
- filing systems, both digital and paper based; record keeping; and basic accounting
- Must be able to prioritize daily work load
- detail orientated and possess good time management skills.
Other Skills/Abilities:
- Self motivated.
- Technically minded and mechanically inclined.
- Be reasonably fit.
- Able to lift 10 kgs (25 lbs).
- Stay current on emerging technology and regulatory requirements.
