Other Information
Background:
Ecotrust Canada is a private, non-profit organization working to support the emergence of a conservation economy in the coastal temperate rain forest region of British Columbia. A conservation economy sustains itself on “principled income” earned from activities and practices that restore rather than deplete natural capital. Through our Information and Planning Services and Economic Development departments we offer tools and resources to First Nations and other community-based organizations, to facilitate positive change at the intersection of ecosystem conservation, economic opportunity and community vitality.
Since it’s inception almost ten years ago, Ecotrust Canada has worked closely with communities and First Nations in our bioregion (coastal British Columbia) to support capacity building in information services, including GIS. We have now worked in approximately 22 communities to provide training, workshops or mapping services. We have also used GIS to support projects, publications and research in forestry, fisheries, aquaculture, land-use planning and marine conservation.
