Geomatics Specialist
$66,557.72 - $75,884.38 annually

The British Columbia Geological Survey (BCGS) links government, the minerals industry, and communities to the province’s geology and mineral resources. The BCGS generates, disseminates, and archives British Columbia’s geoscience data to stimulate investment and provide knowledge to society’s decision makers for responsible land and resource management. The BCGS is a leader in public government geoscience, providing geological and geomorphological information to all through traditional reports, maps, and databases, which can be freely accessed online.

The Geomatics Specialist is part of a team responsible for the development, operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the BCGS geoscience databases, applications, and products. This position has a focus on delivering GIS and related geospatial and information technologies to support the British Columbia Geological Survey’s business objectives and to provide GIS data integration, analysis, and cartographic services to the branch.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Undergraduate degree in geomatics, resource management, or geography or related area, or equivalent.
  • 2 years experience in the natural resource sector with specific preference for physical geography, geomorphology, geology, mineral exploration, or environmental studies.
  • Experience developing and managing large spatial and attribute data sets and experience with database management tools and applications.
  • Experience developing methodologies, and performing custom geo-spatial data modelling and complex analysis and interpretations.
  • Cartographer with expertise developing and delivering map-based products.
  • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
