Job Description

The Municipality of Brockton invites qualified applicants for the full-time position of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) / Asset Management Technician. Nestled in the rolling countryside of the Saugeen and Teeswater Rivers, the Municipality of Brockton is a friendly rural community with innovative industry and a vibrant downtown core.

Reporting to the Director of Operations the GIS / Asset Management Technician is responsible to facilitate the collection, compiling, input, storage and retrieval of data for the GIS/Tangible Capital Assets system.

Candidates must be self-motivated, be flexible, exhibit superior time management capabilities have excellent written/oral communication and computer skills including but not limited to; word processing, GPS survey equipment, ArcGIS 10 desktop, capital asset software and database management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create maps for all departments as required.
  • Develop models to assist in strategic calculations.
  • Provide technical GIS support for all users and non-users.
  • Develop and manage all web GIS data and applications.
  • Compile and organize data from maps, databases and other sources.
  • Create and maintain metadata.
  • Perform spatial analysis.
  • Database development and management for spatial and related data.
  • Data development and maintenance for asset management inventory.
  • Provide data from GIS to CityWide software.
  • Liaise with departments regarding asset additions and disposals.
  • Assists in the integration of the Asset Management Plan (AMP) and GIS for purposes of planning.
  • Assists with small project management oversight.

Job Qualifications

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in GIS or related discipline.
  • Certified GISP (Geographic Information Systems Professional) or have the ESRI Technical certification is considered an asset.
  • Specialization and experience in asset management.
  • Five or more years of progressively more responsible related experience with public sector asset management programs.
  • Knowledge and experience with Canadian and International asset management standards and best practices with a focus on municipal sector.
  • Thorough knowledge of the use of computer software including Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS 10 desktop suite of products and ArcGIS Online.
