Job Description
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Academic Data Centre Manager, the Geospatial and Data Analyst works within the Academic Data Centre to provide assistance to patrons in the use of numeric and geospatial data and related software. Assistance provided can be in-depth thus requiring programming level expertise in GIS applications and GIS data analysis. This incumbent will primarily be working one-on-one with patrons but he/she will also be involved in outreach to faculty and departments as well as in-class and large group presentations. The analyst will be expected to keep up with the latest techniques in Geospatial analysis and develop innovative solutions for data related projects as needed. The incumbent also assists the Data Centre Manager in providing support for other data services provided through the Academic Data Centre. Further responsibilities will include creating
Job Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The incumbent will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Studies/Science, Computer Science, GIS or a related field, or, a diploma in GIS and 2 years relevant work experience
- Extensive knowledge of Geographic Information Systems software, particularly ESRI ArcGIS, and programming level knowledge of GIS data and GIS applications
- Advanced knowledge of statistical methods and numeric data, and their application to academic research
- Excellent computer skills including Windows, Internet and Office software and familiarity with web page development
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-graduate work certificate in GIS
- Knowledge of SPSS; Networking or programming experience,
- Presentation and teaching experience would be an asset.
