?Electricity Operations is responsible for the electrical transmission and distribution systems in the City of Edmonton, with a focus on safety, reliability, and innovative and practical solutions. Our employees look after electrical infrastructure as well as the underground and aerial distribution networks.
Brief Posting Description:
As the Team Lead, GIS, you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the work of the GIS team. You will coordinate and lead the preparation of construction drawings, recording of assets in GIS, GIS data model connectivity and support various analysis and mapping activities. You will define the requirements for drawing templates and recording practices and ensure the configuration of the drafting and GIS environments are aligned to the needs of Electricity Operations.
In addition, as the Team Lead, you will develop and maintain a training framework that will ensure GIS staff remain adequately trained and have access to a library of training procedures to support the preparation of construction drawings and the recording of assets in GIS. You will be responsible to ensure drafting/GIS time is appropriately allocated and will provide input into performance evaluations and hiring.
Detailed Description:
Reporting to the Manager, GIS, you will be accountable for (but limited to):
- Providing input to the GIS plans and directions and ensuring on-going appropriate relationships with other positions as required.
- Providing higher-level technical expertise in the preparation of construction drawings and the recording of asset information in GIS.
- Assigning tasks and assisting colleagues to resolve problems.
- Monitoring tasks, coaching and providing feedback on employee performance.
- Ensuring managers are informed of task progress and work performance.
- Making recommendations for improvements to the work methodology and assisting the manager in investigating and resolving problems.
- Making recommendations to the manager on hiring, performance appraisal, performance and resolution of complex technical issues.
- Developing the parameters that guide the preparation of drawing templates, cell libraries and configuration of the drafting and GIS environments to support the consistent and standardized preparation of construction and other detailed drawings to align to Electricity Operations business needs.
- Setting guidelines, providing direction and technical expertise to aid in the development of a library of procedures that are used by drafting and GIS technologists for the preparation of GIS models and CAD Drawings (including construction and other detailed drawings as required).
- Setting guidelines, standards and processes that direct the execution of QA/QC measures to ensure that construction drawings, detailed plan drawings and asset recording in GIS are completed to GIS/drafting standards and procedures.
- Responding to data updates, maintenance and conflict management requests.
- Investigating and developing process improvements and change management initiatives related to the preparation of construction drawings and recording of electrical assets in GIS.
- Training to fill in resource & skill gaps and succession planning.
- Providing support to external communities, operations and/or stakeholders.
Job Qualifications
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Diploma in EngineeringDesign and Drafting, GIS or Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institute of technology.
- At least 7 years of experience in a utility.
- Experience in drafting and computer aided drafting and GIS software.
- Experience in MS Office Software.
- Experience coordinating work, training and coaching resources.
- Knowledge of databases, GIS desktop, spatial analysis and web solutions will be considered an asset
- Advanced MicroStation skills.
- Advanced technical knowledge of Electric Office or other GIS using standard Electrical Data Models.
