Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager Assets and Compliance, this position is responsible to provide leadership in the provision of development, implementation and maintenance of geospatial technology and geospatial data for FortisBC’s gas and electric businesses.

 

Key Accountabilities:

Provide leadership in the development, implementation and maintenance of business process changes and improvements in geospatial technology and geospatial data in accordance with Operations and Engineering strategies and related initiatives; ensure alignment of business processes, systems technology and corporate strategic initiatives.

Represent the engineering department as the central point of contact for geospatial related projects. Collaborate with others to ensure understanding, influence change, and provide direction in the execution of change management activities to ensure acceptance and effective performance. Responsible for geospatial infrastructure reporting to the FortisBC’s Executive Team and Board of Directors as required.

Develop measures and monitor the implementation and results of geospatial process improvement projects; evaluate process results, activities and outcomes and initiate improvements to maximize performance and ensure effective adoption of new/revised processes.

Lead and manage team/s of skilled resources to meet business demands. Hire staff, arrange training, set and review performance expectations and facilitate resolutions to work related issues. Ensure all staff are effectively trained and competent in work activities for optimal service and performance.

Develop and implement standardized, common and integrated processes based on business priorities, organizational capabilities and budgetary requirements. 

Provide geospatial advice and direction for both internal and external stakeholders in the development of supporting processes and work specifications, including explanation of decision making rationales and cost/benefit analysis.

 

 

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

Bachelors' degree in geospatial information systems or related programs plus 8 to 12 years related experience in a leadership capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

 

Technical Competencies:

 

Knowledge of gas and electric operations and engineering; including; company policies, standards, procedures, support systems, regulatory requirements and codes;

Knowledge of process design and change management principles and methodologies;

Demonstrated ability to manage direct reports in both gas and electric working locations;

Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups, deliver presentations;

Demonstrated ability to develop business cases and request proposals and quotes;

Demonstrated ability to analyze information and make sound judgments;

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships;

Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team;

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;

Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and execute work on time and on budget;

Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and demanding work schedule;

Demonstrated ability to represent FortisBC on industry working groups;

Demonstrated ability to provide vision and direction for improvements of geospatial technology at FortisBC;        

Computer skills with FortisBC Gas and Electric geospatial application software tools (ie. Smallworld, ESRI) and related applications;

Valid BC Driver’s License;
