Laurier’s Cartographer/Geospatial Specialist will assume responsibility for designing, creating and producing maps, geospatial visualization and graphics for teaching, publication, and promotional purposes.  This position is responsible for the efficient operation, acquisition and management of the map library, geospatial data holdings, paper map and reference materials.  The successful incumbent will rely on their competency with GIS software and spatial data processing to provide GIS management, expertise to university stakeholders.  In consultation with instructors, faculty, students and researchers, the Cartographer/Geospatial Specialist will analyze graphic communication problems inherent in map conceptualization, design and production to recommend solutions and provide leadership during implementation.

Job Qualifications

The ideal applicant will possess a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Geography with a specialization in GIS, Geomatics and cartographic techniques with two years of related experience providing high-quality GIS, geospatial and related technical services to end-users.  The successful applicant will have a solid understanding of concepts in geomatics, cartographic visualization and presentation software as well as proven knowledge of the Canadian National Topographic mapping system, Federal and Provincial geospatial and geographic data products and graphic formats. Excellent planning and organizational skills are critical to successfully manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.  Exceptional verbal and written communications skills are essential.
