Job Description

Transportation Data Analyst

If you are a self-starter with proven GeoRef software experience, this position with the Peel District School Board is for you.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Planning and Development, the Peel District School Board Transportation Data Analyst, Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR) will oversee the development, design and management of an efficient student transportation system serving both the Peel District School Board and the Dufferin-Peel District School Board.  Responsibilities will include: 

  • Administering and supporting all GeoRef transportation planning software on 25 desktops and 2 main servers;
  • setting up, scheduling and monitoring daily backups of critical files;
  • archiving monthly/annual database copies and handling multiple database environments;
  • monitoring servers for performance and issues, ensuring reliable operation of software for Busplanner users;
  • liaising with vendor to address development needs, troubleshooting and implementing any procedural workarounds, fixes and patches;
  • maintaining Busplanner Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to ensure accurate transportation eligibilities, bus routing and distances;
  • facilitating, monitoring and analyzing student information data exchanges, both to and from STOPR and Dufferin-Peel and Peel School Board student software systems;
  • analyzing and maintaining GPS fleet tracking systems, monitoring data flow, tracking 1300 plus units and applying data to improve route planning within Busplanner;
  • providing support for all IT-related issues within STOPR and training for all GeoRef software and any general software, phone and email issues;
  • providing second level support to external clients;
  • ensuring training of both new and current staff and additional GeoQuery and GPS-related training for school administrators and bus operators;
  • creating educational, procedural and self-help tools/manuals for department staff;
  • working with staff to develop procedures to facilitate efficient software usage;
  • working with vendor and transportation staff to develop and identify any potential software improvements;
  • providing data analysis and reports for senior management, board staff at both the Peel and Dufferin-Peel boards, STOPR staff, external clients and public as required;
  • investigating transportation system-related questions from board staff, Principals, Vice-Principals and Office Managers as needed;
  • responsible for all aspects of the GeoQuery website;
  • GIS and geomatic database design and building, GIS programming and data/map organization; other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

As a Transportation Data Analyst, you will be able to apply your:

  • College diploma or university degree in Geographic Information Systems/Geomatics/Geography/ Planning/Urban Planning or a computer related field
  • Minimum of two to four years experience in a computer oriented business environment
  • GeoRef software experience and training
  • Previous experience or knowledge of student information systems (SIS/Trillium), GIS software applications (ArcGis/ArcView), GPS fleet management technologies (Synovia solutions), website administration (SharePoint) and database administration (SQL)
  • Working knowledge and understanding of computer hardware and software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Windows Server)
  • Experience using and maintaining current GIS software applications and spatial data
  • Ability to interpret, analyze and problem solve technical system issues and make appropriate recommendations
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning, time management skills with ability to prioritize and meet timelines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to train system users and document procedures
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision and co-operatively with multiple disciplines
  • Effective customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent record-keeping skills, with demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy of results and reporting
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment
  • Record of satisfactory on-the-job performance while employed by the Peel District School Board
