The Opportunity
To strategically deliver high quality results for our clients during periods of high volumes of work, we are reaching out to highly motivated, skilled, experienced GIS Specialists to assist our team in Vancouver, BC.*
Responsibilities Include:
- Working on highly innovative projects related to geospatial problem solving in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem sciences, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction
- Designing and implementing geo-processing and data synthesis solutions
- Creating cartographic products and infographics for reports or presentations
- Developing web mapping solutions
- Collecting, organizing and maintaining geographic data
- Quality controlling, reviewing and cleaning data
- Creating and maintaining technical documentation, methods documentation, and metadata
- Staying abreast of technology trends and providing recommendations, input and advice on how these may enhance the services we offer our clients.
- Assisting staff with research projects, which may involve literature reviews, workshop preparation and analytical support
Job Qualifications
You possess a Master’s degree in an environmental discipline (preferably ecology) with a post-secondary certification in GIS. We will also consider candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and post-secondary certification in GIS. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 prior years of GIS experience in the private sector inclusive of:
- Proficiency working with ESRI ArcGIS 10.x desktop tools
- Proven knowledge of geo-processing and cartographic principles
- Competency writing code to automate GIS tasks or manipulate data (e.g., Python, R)
- Data management/manipulation skills (general SQL, Microsoft Excel and Access or equivalent at a minimum)
- Competency with ArcGIS 10.x server side tools: ESRI ArcGIS Server, ESRI Web APIs, and/or open source web GIS platforms (OpenLayers, GeoServer, or equivalent)
Skills and Attributes
- Versatile; desire to learn new technologies and expand your areas of expertise
- Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams
- Proactive and results oriented, with strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to analyze and query GIS data with meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work on multiple projects, set priorities, and meet rigid deadlines
- Excellent English communication skills are essential
Assets
- Experience in utilizing HTML5 and JavaScript for the purposes of developing GIS web applications
- Experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS and SQL Server
- Experience developing applications using .NET framework
- Spanish language skills would be an asset
