Job Description

Purpose of Contract:

To implement a web publishing system using QGIS Server, QGIS Web Client and QGIS Cloud, to allow public access via internet to maps created with QGIS Desktop by the Social Planning Council of Ottawa.

Scope of the Contract:

This is a short-term contract to:

  • Install, configure and deploy web map capabilities using the QGIS suite
  • Publish an existing QGIS (desktop) project to the web using the QGIS suite, and re-using the project’s QGIS desktop configurations
  • Prepare a help manual, to enable subsequent successful web publishing by SPC GIS staff, including setting out relevant protocols for production in QGIS (desktop) projects.

 The project is to be completed by August 22, 2014.

 Remuneration is $2,000 for completion of the contract.  A 25% bonus ($500) could be paid for early completion.  

The individual is expected to operate as an independent consultant (contractor), so the hours and scheduling of the work are at the discretion of the individual.

Location of the Contract:

Since the work is web-based, the successful candidate may work from any location.  The SPC will provide remote access to necessary QGIS desktop files. 

Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience setting up and implementing web publishing using the QGIS suite. 
  • Knowledge of Open Source GIS (QGIS, Map Box, Arc Viewer, GeoServer, MapServer, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Java Script, Python, HTML forms
  • Ability to communicate in English and/or French, but demonstrated ability to create the user interface in English.
