Job Description
The City of Cranbrook is currently recruiting for the position of GIS Coordinator.
The City of Cranbrook is located in the southeast corner of British Columbia amongst the majestic Rockies and Purcell mountains, in close proximity to Alberta and the Canada/USA border. With a population of approximately 20,000, Cranbrook is the largest community in the East Kootenay with a trading base of approximately 70,000. Reporting to the Director of Engineering Services/City Engineer, the primary function of the GIS Coordinator position is to develop and maintain a geographical information system (GIS) and to provide computer assisted mapping services to City departments as required. Additionally, the GIS Coordinator will be required to create and maintain an up to date, contemporary electronic record of the City’s infrastructure and to develop and maintain up to date associated mapping and infrastructure data bases used for asset management purposes.
Job Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- Grade 12 completion and a diploma in Civil Engineering/GIS Technology from a recognized Engineering Technical Institute or Community College or equivalent accredited certification.
- Completion of CAD courses or other related engineering software courses equivalent to a recognized GIS Program.
A demonstrated and proven combination of relevant training and experience will be considered.
LICENSES:
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 3 years experience in municipal engineering applications of GIS (e.g. using ESRI software and familiarity with a Server Development Environment (SDE)).
SPECIFIC SKILLS:
Knowledge of CAD based software and other computer software (e.g. ESRI Arc GIS and Cityworks) and techniques as they apply to engineering information technology.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of computer networking concepts and network administration (specifically Windows 2003 or later, Windows XP OS, TCP/IP) software applications; computer systems analysis and design in a client-server and in a web enabled computing environment; problem definition and solution techniques applicable to data processing operations; formal methods and techniques for development, design and maintenance of relational databases and structured methodologies for production systems; structured event driven and object oriented programming with proficiency in ESRI (ArcGIS), Access, Visual Basic, Java Script, HTML, style-sheets, SQL, MSWord, MSExcel, AutoCad Map and related special software products.
