The Opportunity
Ducks Unlimited Canada, Canada’s leader in wetland conservation, is seeking a confident, energetic and dedicated GIS Specialist to join our team at our national headquarters, Oak Hammock Marsh, near Winnipeg, Manitoba.
As a member of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team, you will be responsible for providing GIS technical expertise including data creation and management, spatial analyses, modeling and decision support, training, cartographic products and consultation/ collaboration with internal clients and external partners to support conservation and fundraising activities across the organization.
You are self-motivated, enjoy a complex, changing environment, can manage numerous projects on tight deadlines and are able to build positive working relationships with staff and stakeholders.
Our ideal candidate is a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills who is capable of seeing the bigger picture.
Additional Details
- Expected term of employment is 12 months
- Daytime business hours, Monday to Friday
- 35 hours per week
Job Qualifications
Requirements
- Possess a technical diploma in GIS and/or university degree in geography, natural resources or related discipline
- 3 or more years experience
- Solid understanding and strong working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS 10.x and image analysis (ERDAS or eCognition)
- Image analysis and air photo interpretation experience
- Be capable of maintaining and managing digital databases
- Be familiar with data creation, geoprocessing, geodatabases and metadata maintenance
- Knowledge cartographic principles (projections and datums)
- Excellent cartographic skills in developing various communication delivery products
- Perform statistical analyses/modeling to support DUC conservation and fundraising program objectives
- Ability to communicate both written and oral in a professional manner
- Ability to work well independently and also in a team setting while keeping others informed of your progress.
- A valid driver’s license is required
