The GIS Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, programming and maintainingEnterprise, Web and Mobile GIS software and other related applications for the Corporation. This position includes interfacing with and providing support to end users making use of the GIS software and its custom applications.  The GIS software is Smallworld and it uses Magik as its programming development language.

Application development using the Magik programming language will be one of the main responsibilities of the GIS Analyst.  In addition the GIS Analyst will be asked to provide in-depth analysis for new applications and enhancements to existing applications that will interact with GIS, mobile GIS and WebGIS and the process will include defining programming requirements, reviewing designs, developing technical documentation and scripting for quality control.  Also, a significant component of the position will include the development of complex data queries that will be accomplished through the use of Magik code.

The GIS Analyst will make use of the Magik application development programming language on a daily basis to enhance current GIS Smallworld applications, to develop new applications and to enhance the integration of GIS data with other corporate applications.  The GIS Analyst will ensure that applications are developed in accordance with the standards and protocols defined at SaskPower and meet the user’s functional requirements.  They will also assist in evaluating emerging technologies and engage in continuous professional development.

The successful applicant will have a degree in Computer Science or Geography, supplemented by four (4) years application development experience, or two (2) year Diploma in Computer Information Systems or two (2) year Diploma in GIS or Geomatics with four (4) years application development experience. 

Candidates under consideration will be required to participate in an assessment process consisting of any/all of the following: interview, ability tests, case study and/or presentation.

This position falls within the scope of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union (CEP), Local 649.

The annual salary range for this position is $64,608-$71,088.
