Job Description
We are currently accepting applications for a LAND SURVEY TECHNOLOGIST (CONSTRUCTION SURVEY PARTY CHIEF) at our Northern Albertalocations.

Ainsworth has been involved in construction surveying since 1987. Since 2001, Ainsworth has been dedicated to the development of Oil Sands Projects in Fort McMurray and Edmonton. Our services include all aspects of plant construction from the initial dirt work to the final asbuilt submissions. We also provide technical drawings, concrete testing and rebar-tying services.
Position Details
Activities
In this office position you will be managing underground as-built information and drawings. Working closely with our operations staff, you will prepare sketches to support ground disturbance permits.
The daily duties of this position will include, but not be limited to;
- Assist survey engineers to develop methods and procedures for conducting field surveys;
- Conduct surveying for rough grading, piling, foundations/anchor bolts, setting/plumbing modules, layout and asbuilt U/G piping and finished grading;
- Conduct field surveys and operate and adjust surveying instruments such as prisms and electronic distance-measuring equipment to measure distance, angles, elevations and contours;
- Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using survey notes, drawings, charts, sketches, and inked tracings;
- Collect information necessary to carry out new surveys, using source maps, previous survey data, computer records and photographs;
- Determine precise geographic locations using global positioning systems (GPS) equipment;
- Analyze latitude, longitude and angles and compute trigonometric and other calculations to plot features, contours and areas to a specific scale;
- Perform calculations to determine Earth curvature corrections, atmospheric impacts on measurements, traverse closures and adjustments, azimuths, level runs and placement of markers;
- Prepare and understand detailed drawings, charts and plans and survey notes and reports;
- Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points;
- Operate land-information computer systems;
- Lay out grids, and determine horizontal and vertical controls;
- Direct and supervise work of subordinate members of surveying parties;
- Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment;

Job Qualifications
Requirements:
- Must have completed diploma or BA in Geoscience or related field;
- Must have some experience in a Land Survey Technologist;
- Must be willing to work a 14/7 day shift which may be extended as required;
- Must be able to work under minimum supervision;
- Must be able to work outdoors during all seasons and extreme winter and summer weather conditions;
- Must have experience with drafting in CAD software and be able to read blueprints;
- Must be able to speak, read and write in English;
- Must have a valid Class 5 Driver`s License;
- Must be prepared to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test;
- Must be physically prepared to perform the requirements of the job;
- Excellent problem solving, decision making, job task planning and organizing;
