Job Description
GIS Policy Analyst
- one temporary (up to 12 months)
Bring your strong research and analytical skills to the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment/Ministry of Research and Innovation, Marketing Branch to provide policy analysis and economic expertise to support policy research and impact analysis for the usage of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
What can I expect to do in this role?
In this challenging role, you will:
- support the Ministry’s GIS web-based technologies within the unit
- apply economic practices and policy analysis to support GIS related requirements
- liaise with ministry contacts, stakeholders and vendors to exchange information and provide consultation and advice
- provide policy research, project management and coordination for the GIS service development and implementation
- lead the preparation of research and analysis papers and presentation materials, briefing documents and other related communication and policy documents

Job Qualifications
How do I qualify?
Business Knowledge and Skills:
- you have knowledge of economics theory, principles and practices as well as research and quantitative statistical analysis methods and tools
- you have knowledge of policy research and development methodology, trends and analysis and forecasting
- you have strong research and analytical skills and techniques
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
- you have advanced knowledge of computerized information systems (ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server, ArcObject and SQL) and of web-based technologies, development techniques and scripting to build applications (ASP.NET, JavaScript, C#, Visual Basic, Java, Python and AJAX)
- you have advanced knowledge of geomatics sub-disciplines including data analysis and data management, GIS theory and techniques, GIS modelling methodology and techniques
- you have knowledge of the functionality, operation and specifications of current industry standard GIS software to prepare various map products
- you have knowledge and understanding of web technologies and their application in the marketing context
Project Management, Team Leadership and Relationship Management Skills:
- you can lead project teams and provide project management and coordination for GIS policy research analysis and development
- you can establish key stakeholder relationships and provide expert analysis and interpretation of GIS policy and service inquiries
- you can provide expert information and analysis of related data
Communication Skills:
- you can provide policy advice and expertise to senior management as well as prepare and present briefing, issues and analysis documents
- you can provide advice on the development and refinement of GIS services for various marketing needs and policy analysis
Salary range: $64,605.00 – $90,300.00 per year
