Job Description

 

The Lands & Resources GIS Program is expanding its mandate to become a “‘Centre of Expertise” for the benefit of all the Mushkegowuk Council departments and our member First Nation’s programs that can use GIS technology and Information Management. Under the supervision of the GIS/Information Manager and as a member of the Lands & Resources team, the incumbent will support the development of the Centre’s expansion.

The incumbent’s thorough experience and/or knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS is essential for this position as is a knowledge of Information Management.  Communication and presentation skills and the ability to speak Cree are considered an asset as the incumbent will be interacting and supporting our member First Nation communities.

The primary duties will include presentation development and delivery, GIS requirement recommendations, data management, and to travel to Mushkegowuk communities to give support. Secondary duties will include providing supportive mapping data and analysis upon request, and other projects related to comprehensive planning and resource activities.



 

Job Qualifications

  • University Degree  or College Diploma or GIS, Geography, Environmental Studies or related field and/or related work experience
  • Thorough knowledge of ESRI GIS software and GPS units
  • Knowledge and skill using computer hardware, software and printers
  • Organizational and problem solving skills, attention to detail, writing skills for documentation, presentations
  • Ability to speak Cree is considered a valuable asset
  • Willingness to travel to  Mushkegowuk First Nations to provide GIS support
  • Knowledge of the culture of First Nations, along with an understanding of their aspirations, socio-economic needs, stewardship values, and history

Other Information



Have a valid (class G) Ontario driver’s licence

A strong desire to develop a working knowledge of land and resource issues affecting First Nations

Ability to work as part of a team, and communicate effectively with a diversity of people including First Nation staff and members

 

** 6 month contract to March 31, 2014 with extension based on secured funding.
