CARTOGRAPHER/GIS
TRANSMISSION DIVISION
RIGHT OF WAY PLANNING
EDMONTON, AB
Working in the Right of Way Planning group, you will provide mapping products, and geographic information systems (GIS) and data management services for the planning of transmission projects and for various other clients using primarily CAD applications. You will use GIS and related software and data for mapping and analytical applications. Your role will be spilt between extensive use of CAD tools and occasional GIS tools for some mapping products.
Responsibilities:
- Produce and revise digital mapping information.
- Help manage large volumes of digital files.
- Provide support for mapping programs and software.
Activities:
- Translating client requests and technical information into maps.
- Providing land/resource data based on mapped/GIS information.
- Assisting in development and maintenance of a spatial data storage system.
- Helping troubleshoot issues with mapping/GIS-related programs and data.
- Helping to test and apply new software.
Job Qualifications
- Technical diploma in Geomatics, Cartography, GIS technology or equivalent.
- At least 2 or more years of experience.
- Strong knowledge of CAD applications including knowledge of Microstation, and ability to interface with other mapping applications.
- Good working knowledge of GIS technology.
- A good working knowledge of land survey and cartographic projections.
- Ability to visualize final products from the conceptual stage.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff and external clients interpersonally and in writing.
- The ability to work independently as well as on project teams.
- Ability to work under the pressure of tight time lines.

- There may be a practical component to the interview.
