Interfor is currently recruiting for a GIS Student (4 month contract)for our Coastal Woodlands operation based in Campbell River, BC. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data management/analysis, have an understanding of coastal forestry operations and thrive in a fast paced work environment.  This individual will be relied upon to support primary inputs for strategic planning and operational forestry.  

 

The ideal candidate must be self-motivated with strong organizational and communication skills and have the ability to work independently within our team framework.

 

We are looking for someone to join our team who has a proven track record in key responsibilities of this position which include the following:

 

  • Operational mapping
  • GIS data management and correction (Trimble and onPOZ)
  • Data loading, data management and quality assurance
  • Application support (The Forest Manager module from Cengea)
  • Data analysis, problem solving and reporting
  • Operational planning
  • Supporting and maintaining an enterprise data management system
  • Working as part of a team to improve methods, business practices and standard operating procedures

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

 

  • Post-secondary training (final year enrolment or recently graduated) in Geographic Information Systems or current pursuit/completion of a degree or diploma in Forest Sciences/Natural Resources with electives taken in GIS
  • Proficiency with Access, Excel and Word to create professional quality data summaries and reports
  • Strong and effective interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
  • Natural aptitude for problem solving and error checking
  • Excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills

 

 

 

 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Experience with Cengea products and enterprise management systems
  • Technical expertise to troubleshoot and problem solve hardware and software issues
  • Some working knowledge & experience with relevant legislation specific to the BC forest sector
  • Data base administration, programming and scripting (SQL Server, SQL, VBA etc…)
  • Registration with (or eligibility for) the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals and/or the College of Applied Biology will be considered an asset
