Interfor is currently recruiting for a GIS Specialist for our Coastal Woodlands operation based in Campbell River, BC. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in GIS analysis and data presentation, have an understanding of coastal forestry operations and thrive in a challenging environment.  This individual will be relied upon to support primary inputs for strategic planning and operational forestry as well as development on an ArcServer powered web-based interface. 

 

The ideal candidate must be self-motivated with strong organizational and communication skills and have the ability to work independently within our team framework.

 

We are looking for someone to join our team who has a proven track record in key responsibilities of this position which include the following:

 

  • Development of ArcServer web interface
  • Visual Impact Assessments
  • Spatial analysis
  • Operational mapping
  • Electronic permit submissions
  • Application support (The Forest Manager module from Cengea)
  • GPS data management, correct, and support (Trimble and OnPOZ)
  • Data loading, data management and quality assurance
  • Support and maintenance of an enterprise data management system
  • Working as part of a team to improve methods, business practices and standard operating procedures

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

 

  • A degree or diploma in Geographic Information Systems, Forest Sciences/Natural Resources or Biology (fish/wildlife)
    • Candidates without a degree or diploma in GIS should have 2+ years of progressive work experience with GIS using ESRI products related to the forestry/natural resource sector
  • Proficiency with Access, Excel and Word to create professional quality data summaries and reports
  • Strong and effective interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
  • Natural aptitude for problem solving and error checking

 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Experience with Visual Nature Studio (VNS) performing visual impact assessments
  • ArcServer development using the Silverlight API
    • Web development experience using the visual web developer plug-in or expression blend
  • Experience with Cengea products and enterprise management systems
  • RISC certified GPS data processor or field operator
  • Working knowledge & experience with relevant legislation specific to the BC forest sector
  • Data base administration, programming and scripting (SQL Server, SQL, VBA etc…)
  • Registration with (or eligibility for) the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals and/or the College of Applied Biology will be considered an asset
