Position Summary

This role will oversee the general day-to-day administration, coordination, implementation and monitoring of the project in the field. This role will be responsible for communicating with the client with respect to project deliverables and generating the determined geomatics deliverables through the effective coordination of the technologists and technicians required to perform the geomatics service.

Responsibilities

Specifically, this position is responsible for:

  • Overseeing the overall day-to-day administration, coordination, implementation and monitoring of the project in the field.
  • The performance management of direct reports; ie. 3 month reviews, mid-year reviews, career development planning, year-end reviews.
  • Ensuring that all field collected data conforms to ARC quality requirements.
  • Recording daily field activities and as-built conditions so that compilation of final details occurs weekly and are complete at the end of the project construction.
  • Assisting the project manager as may be required with performance or progress report submissions, change control, the final review and lessons learned exercises.
  • Assisting in performing a project audit in the event of a project failing to meet requirements.
  • Communicating with the client with respect to generating the determined geomatics deliverables.
  • Generating the determined geomatics deliverables through the effective coordination of the technologists and technicians required to perform the geomatics service.
  • Managing projects from beginning to end: supervising personnel, resolving problems, maintaining quality control, coordinating field operations and meeting project deadlines.
  • Providing direction to crews on operating procedures relating to job specific hazards.
  • Processing raw field work into CAD and proficient with AutoCAD.
  • Reading various survey plans and drawings.
  • Guiding crews on their field notes as required.
  • Performing the various types of survey associated with Levels, Total-Station and GPS equipment.
  • Teaching and guiding crews in the operation of levels and total stations.
  • Applying these concepts effectively to client requirements.
  • Managing multiple field crews with their daily task.
  • Troubleshooting the field crew's work in the office and field and providing guidance to both as necessary.

 

Job Qualifications

Qualifications

One of the following combinations of Education, Course Work, Minimum Relevant Experience:

Education Course(s) Experience

Technical Diploma (Geomatics or Civil Engineering) and 5 years experience

Minimum Grade 10 Technical college courses 5 years approved by ASSMT

Other Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to understand and accurately communicate detailed survey principles to field Technicians.
  • Ability to do advanced calculations including curve, curve and straight line, intersections, closure and closure balancing, as well as area calculations.
  • Understands Microsurvey, Microstation or related COGO based software.
  • Ability to manage field or office operations in a limited capacity.
  • Understands the company's survey equipment and its operations and has ability to guide / teach crews on how to use the equipment.
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Strong administrative abilities.
  • Strong mentorship and coaching skills.
  • Excellent working relations with client.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good skills with word and excel.
  • Good project management skills.
