GIS CARTOGRAPHY ASSISTANT

CAPITAL PROJECTS DIVISION

GIS CARTOGRAPHY, RIGHT-OF-WAY PLANNING & LAND AGENTS

EDMONTON, AB

Working in the Right of Way Planning and Land Agents (ROWP/LA) group while under the supervision of the Supervisor GIS Cartography, this position will assist the GIS Cartography group in various processes related to providing GIS Cartography services to ATCO Electric.

Responsibilities:         

  • Working in a team dynamic with GIS Cartography directly and indirectly with other groups within ROWP/LA to coordinate the data exchange process and track commitment dates.
  • Providing support for QC and data processing functions for CAD and GIS related data.
  • Providing project coordination support for projects under the individual’s responsibility.
  • Preparing project maps for various clients as needed.
  • Supporting new process initiatives through implementation and maintenance as needed.
  • Completing some technical reviews and verification of products for completed projects.
  • Working with document management/ tracking software including Share point and Project Wise when implemented.
  • General administration duties as needed.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of Grade 12 high school diploma and minimum of 2 years experience.
  • Training and /or a certificate or diploma in a technically related field is preferred.
  • Experience in a related position within a utility or similar environment.
  • Good awareness of electrical system basics, land and mapping terminology.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and map products.
  • Experience working with GIS and/or drafting software would be an asset.
  • Proficient and experience working with MS Office tools as like Ms Excel, Word, Outlook and Power point.
  • Highly organized with the ability to successfully manage several projects simultaneously and accurately document information.
  • Proven self starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written, verbal communication and learning skills.
  • Good team player with strong interpersonal skills.
