We are seeking a qualified and highly motivated individual to join our team in Vancouver, British Columbia. The position involves working on highly innovative projects related to geospatial problem solving within the environmental sciences. This position involves a mix of desktop GIS analysis, database management and graphic design/display.  Duties of the role include:

  • Collect, organize and maintain geographic data
  • GIS analysis and mapping
  • Quality controlling and reviewing data
  • Database creation and management
  • Technical documentation writing
  • Preparing high quality professional graphics
  • Assisting staff with research projects, which may involve literature reviews, workshop preparation and analytical support

Job Qualifications

Your education includes a technical diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and a Bachelor’s degree in one of geography, ecology, biology, environmental science, or geomatics. Experience requirements are a minimum of 1-2 years of experience with ESRI ArcGIS software and 1 year with database management (SQL Server, Oracle, Access).

You have experience organizing and manipulating spatial and tabular datasets, and working with one or more graphic design/display package (e.g. Microsoft Visio, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW).

To complement your education and experience, the required skills and abilities to succeed in the role includes:

  • Proactive and results oriented, with strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Presentation and report-writing skills dealing with complex technical information
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to analyze, query and run reports on GIS data with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent English communication skills are essential
  • Competence with Microsoft Access and Excel
  • Programming experience related to GIS (Python, .NET) considered an asset
  • Experience with web mapping technologies considered an asset

Other Information

Selected candidates must demonstrate a coursework history or direct job experience aimed at geospatial analysis and the display of geographic information.
