We have an exciting career opportunity if you are a results-oriented professional with a progressive GIS background. We’re looking for a customer-oriented team player to join our GIS section to provide technical services related to the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS). A self-directed and motivated individual, you will create, manage and distribute GIS services to support web, desktop, and mobile applications to the organization. You’ll be responsible for performing a wide range of technical work in the development and maintenance of GIS data, applications, procedures, standards and the production of mapping information within an ESRI environment. You’ll demonstrate your professional approach and exceptional communication abilities in responding to customer requests and providing training to end users.

 

Job Qualifications

A logical, creative, and independent thinker, you will use your analytical skills to effectively develop solutions. Along with a Diploma in Computer Science, Geomatics, Geography, Surveying, Civil Engineering or related field plus an Advanced Diploma in GIS from a recognized Technical Institute, you have at least 5 years of progressive GIS experience in a Civil or Municipal environment. Other qualifications include a minimum of 1 year of experience in ArcGIS for Server administration, training in a wide range of GIS, CAD, GPS and RDBMS systems and recent work experience in programming, using current programming languages and techniques. You have a solid understanding of municipal GIS principles, standards, methods and techniques for data capture, retrieval, conversion and storage.

 

Your background also includes experience in the following areas:

 

  • Creating, maintaining and administrating ArcSDE Enterprise Geodatabases
  • Administration of web servers on Microsoft Server operating systems
  • ESRI ArcGIS software including ArcGIS for Server, ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS for Mobile
  • Development and management of web applications within GeoCortex Essentials
  • RDBMS administration, development and maintenance
  • GPS and the development of data capture methods and techniques using mobile devices
  • Autodesk Civil 3D
  • Certification as an ESRI Associate at the Enterprise level is desired

 

You thrive in an environment where you can use your initiative to meet deadlines and organize your work and you work well within a constantly changing technical environment. Strong project leadership abilities are essential in this position, as is the ability to act as a mentor.

 

We may consider less than fully qualified applicants provided you meet the educational qualifications, have a minimum of 3 years of progressive GIS experience and a minimum of 1 year of experience in ArcGIS for Server Administration.
