This is a unique opportunity to design and develop a new GIS system for the Town to showcase the intrinsic value of GIS to serve the Town staff, residents, and external users. This position is ideal for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual with strong technical abilities and innovation in GIS implementation.
Reporting to the Manager of Information Services, the GIS Technician/Database Administrator contributes to the effective operation of the Information Services Department through the support and maintenance of the GIS databases and cadastral mapping system. This position is responsible for a wide range of duties related to the development and maintenance of the GIS system, administration and maintenance for the Town’s SQL server databases, and will assist with the support of the IT infrastructure as required.
The incumbent will be required to maintain GIS and SQL server databases, including developing methodologies for database input and maintenance by staff; assisting with the development, alteration or refinement of GIS capabilities to meet departmental and corporate requirements; design, develop, compile, update, analyze, and maintain a wide variety of GIS data in the municipality’s databases and provide customization and support in ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server and Desktop, AutoCAD Map and other related software.
Our desired qualifications are a Diploma in Computer Science, Geomatics, GIS, geography or related field and five years’ experience in designing and implementing spatial database technology and managing land and resource related data, preferably in a municipal or related environment.
The three step CUPE pay schedule is $32.73 - $34.16 - $35.58 hourly (pay Grade 12). A detailed job description is available at www.sidney.ca.
