Currently we have an immediate opening for the following position: GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS ANALYST (GIS)
Right-of-Way Planning Group
Reporting to the Supervisor, Geographic Information System (GIS) & Cartographic Services is responsible for providing mapping, geographic information systems (GIS) and data management services for various ATCO Electric sections, and primarily in support of new capital transmission projects. Use and help maintain GIS /CAD data, complete GIS spatial data analysis, prepare and tabulate analysis results, and geo-process spatial data and related information for mapping and analytical applications.
Responsibilities:
- Produce and revise digital mapping information.
- Review product requests with clients and provide map products, translating customer requests and data into maps
- Ensure data format is consistent with user needs, support data cataloguing (metadata) initiatives and provide spatial data to clients upon request
- Assist in assessment and development of spatial data storage systems and maintain appropriate quality control of data.
- Complete spatial data projection and format conversions
- Complete spatial data analysis to support right-of-way planning decisions, construction logistic decisions and consultation reporting.
- Assist clients with ongoing support of programs, including troubleshooting.
- Develop awareness among internal customers and users of GIS products and processes.
- Assist with identification of need for new specifications or products.
- Assist with testing and applying new software.
Job Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Minimum Technical Diploma in one of GIS, Cartography, or Geomatics with a minimum 2 years of experience using progressive GIS and spatial data management systems.
- A University Degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Sciences, Business, Geology, Engineering, Forestry or other related natural science would be considered.
- Knowledge and experience with spatial data analysis methodologies.
- Knowledge and experience with Microstation and /or AutoCAD technologies
- Knowledge of spatial data management systems and enterprise GIS systems.
- Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service attitude.
To be eligible for hire, candidates will be required to complete a Security Clearance Check satisfactory to ATCO Electric.
