Job Description

Reporting to the Academic Data Centre Manager, the Geospatial and Data Analyst will work in the Academic Data Centre,  Leddy Library to provide one-on-one support to patrons in the use of numeric and geospatial data and related software.  Assistance provided can be in-depth thus requiring programming level expertise in GIS applications and GIS data analysis.  The incumbent will conduct outreach and make presentations to classes and other large groups and create and maintain documentation, guides, and relevant web pages to support and promote GIS and data services.  The Geospatial and Data Analyst will be expected to keep up to-date with the latest technologies in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and develop innovative solutions for data related projects as needed.  The incumbent also assists the Data Centre Manager in providing support for other non-GIS data services provided through the Academic Data Centre.

Job Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Studies/Science, Computer Science, GIS or a related field, or, a diploma in GIS and 2 years relevant work experience.  The incumbent must have extensive knowledge of Geographic Information Systems software, particularly ESRI ArcGIS, and programming level knowledge of GIS data and GIS applications.  He/she must also have advanced knowledge of statistical methods and numeric data, and their application to academic research.  Along with excellent computer skills including Windows, Internet and Office software, the incumbent will also have familiarity with web page development.  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written are essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Post-graduate work certificate in GIS; Knowledge of SPSS; Networking or programming experience, as well as presentation and teaching experience would be an asset.
