GIS TECHNICIAN-INFORMATION PROCESSOR

Reporting to the Manager of Capital Planning & Infrastructure the successful candidate will be responsible for GIS and related computer support such as researching, designing and maintaining departmental data models and standards.  As well as performing and writing ad hoc and custom queries using Structured Query Language (SQL).  Other responsibilities include performing data quality control checks, providing end user support and assisting with report formats and generation of hardcopy map products. 

Job Qualifications

This position requires a Community College Diploma in Geographic Information Systems (or suitable equivalent).  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years experience in the use of GIS software and hardware and be able to modify/customize as needed.  Must include one year experience in the use of relational database technology (Oracle or Microsoft Access preferred) with a demonstrated ability to write and understand structured programs using HTML, Java Script or Visual Basic.  Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, legal plans and other department related documents is essential.  Excellent interpersonal skills will be needed when dealing effectively and courteously with the public, staff and Council.  Valid class G driver’s license, in good standing and a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business is required.
