Job Description
As a member of the Corporate Forestry Inventory & Analysis team you will be involved in management of corporate spatial data and landscape level inventories for more than 1 million hectares on the coast of British Columbia. This includes providing leadership in the development of standards and documentation for an Enterprise GIS working with internal and external information sources. It also includes investigating and advising on cost effective ways of improving information on forest resources for tenure management and strategic timber supply analysis. The Inventory Forester / Data Manager works closely with other members of the Inventory & Analysis group, corporate and operational staff and personnel at government agencies.
Job Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have strong technical and interpersonal skills. This includes data base (Oracle, Access), GIS (ArcMap, SDE, MapServer) and programming (SQL, VB.net, Python) and a proven track record in project management and in facilitating and working successfully with project teams. You will have demonstrated initiative and leadership and be an effective communicator. A thorough understanding of forest inventory concepts and of basic forestry operations and procedures will be preferred, although outstanding aptitude may be considered in lieu of experience. You possess a diploma or degree in forestry, geomatics or computer technology and a minimum of three years experience in data management, or five plus years of experience employing the skills listed above. Preference may be given to candidates eligible for registration with the Association of B.C. Forest Professionals.
